A kitchen countertop is one of the biggest and best investments you can make for yourself but understand that it’s not a small purchase. It’s something that’s going to set you back thousands of dollars which is why it’s important that you thoroughly plan for it as well. For one, there are many types of countertops that you can choose from.

For many, getting countertops made out of synthetic materials are a good option because it’s cheap. However, what you do get in return is a countertop that’s not durable and not as valuable as other countertops on the market. That’s why most people eventually end up saving for and eventually getting natural stone countertops instead.

The search doesn’t stop here though. There are various stone countertops to choose from as well. There’s soapstone, marble, quartz, onyx, and so many more. Of all the natural stone countertops up for selection, one that continues to catch the attention of people is none other than granite which is arguably one of the best options currently.

As a countertop, granite offers a lot of things. A good price, quality, and a ton of other benefits as well. It used to be the premier countertop of choice especially for luxury homes but that was until marble and other natural stones began appearing on the market. However, don’t let that fool you though/

Granite hasn’t gone down in quality over the last couple of years and many homeowners believe that it’s time has finally passed. There are many questions you need to answer as a future countertop owner and one of them is whether or not a stone is already out of style. Is this the case for granite?

The Rise And Fall Of Granite

First of all, it’s best to understand the rise and fall of granite in the first place. From the early 70s, granite began becoming popular as a countertop option because of its good price and amazing quality. You’ll find a lot of homes have had granite installed and more future homes will pick granite as the countertop as well.

Due to its immense popularity, more people knew about the value of countertops but most importantly, they saw the value of granite countertops as well. That’s when other competitors began jumping into the market. By competitors, we mean other countertop materials such as marble, soapstone, and many others.

To help cope with the competitions, fabricators of granite countertop began ramping up the production of granite. By the 90s, the demand for natural stone was very high and the countertop was at its peak. Almost every homeowner thought of granite as a countertop material but that was the beginning of the problem.

Since the demand was so high, fabricators began increasing their production of granite countertops. With such a high supply to meet the demand, the price of granite began to fall as well. Some believe that this caused people to think that granite was not a good material because of the price but they couldn’t be more wrong though as the quality of granite never changed.

With the popularity of granite waning, other countertops began to rise. Most specifically, it’s quartz and marble that began taking over the market. Over time, the popularity of granite continued to decline and eventually, it was overtaken by other countertops in the market. Now, granite is at least the third most popular countertop on the market.

Is Granite Out Of The Loop?

Now comes an important question, is granite really out of the loop and is it out of style? For one, you should consider that becoming less popular and being out of style are two completely different things. Being less popular means it’s no longer the popular choice. Being out of style means people just can’t seem to find a place for granite in their homes.

Let’s first talk about whether or not granite is out of style.  In terms of aesthetics, we firmly believe that granite is one of the better looking countertops that money can buy. It’s a real natural stone after all. It may not look as classic as marble but it does make houses more luxurious to some degree.

One of the good things about granite is that it comes in a large variety of colors. YOu can find a good granite color for your kitchen regardless of what color you are looking for. In reality, granite is a natural stone that has the largest countertop color selection which is a good thing especially if you’re picking a countertop solely for style.

Because of its versatility, more people are seeing the good in granite. There’s just a lot of merits in it that they can’t seem to overlook how great granite is for the home. While it may not be the most stylish and most luxurious option, granite does provide a unique look for your kitchen that you simply get pass up on.

It’s hard to say whether or not granite is completely out of style because the truth is that natural stone countertops like granite are going to be in. You’ll see that more and more homeowners are actually interested in getting natural stone as compared to other countertop materials because not only is it valuable, it’s also very stylish too.

The problem with marble is that there’s such limited colors of it so it’s not really the perfect countertop for everyhome. Granite is a bridge to this problem because of its versatility. A lot of homeowners end up getting granite because at the end of the day, it’s the only countertop that fits.

Now, why is granite unpopular nowadays? Well, there are actually a few factors that affect the quality of granite. One is that marble and quartz are really hard to beat currently. Marble is the luxury choice whereas quartz is the budget friendly option. People pick between these two options without knowing that granite actually exists.

That isn’t to say that the quality of granite is subpar. In fact, it is still one of the best countertops out there in terms of durability and quality. If you are considering getting granite as a countertop material, then here are a few reasons why you shouldn’t think twice about getting this marvelous natural stone for your kitchen.

Why Granite?

There are many reasons to choose granite but let’s start with the basics of course. One of the main reasons why you should pick granite is that it’s very versatile. It comes in a wide variety of colors so whichever style you are going to at home, there’s bound to be a granite countertop that fits your home.

In terms of durability and quality, granite is definitely up there along with the likes of marble and many other countertops made out of natural stone. It’s scratch resistant and heat resistant too. When it undergoes the process of sealing, then your granite countertop is going to be a waterproof material as well.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you should abuse your granite countertop. As with other natural stone countertops, it pays to take care of and maintain your countertop so that it stays in pristine condition even after a long time. Remember, natural stone countertops grow in value overtime so it’s a must to keep your granite countertop looking fresh.

Another benefit to granite countertops is that they are very easy to find. Granite isn’t a rare natural stone countertop. In fact, you can find it in almost every fabricator that sells natural stone countertops. For other countertops like marble, you have to wait and order one before it gets delivered and installed in your home.

Perhaps the most important part of owning a granite countertop is that it’s going to be a good investment. As we’ve said, your granite countertop is going to be more valuable over time. This is important as experts forecast that granite is going to be on top of the industry in the future once again. Once that happens, you’ll have a valuable natural stone granite in your kitchen.

It’s best to get the countertop while the price is still relatively low. There’s no telling how expensive it can become in the future.

Granite might not be as popular as it used to be but that doesn’t mean that the countertop will stay there. With its decreasing price but sustainable quality, it’s only a matter of when and not if granite countertops are going to be in once again. Whether you like it or not, granite is still going to be a prominent player in the market.

When it comes to choosing your next countertop, you should heavily consider getting granite as it’s something that most people love and it’s something that many people would call stylish. Who knows, it might just be the perfect countertop for your kitchen but you haven’t given it much notice yet.
