What we build
A mudroom is the drop zone between the car or the yard and the rest of the house. We design and build lockers, benches, cubbies, tall cabinets and wall hooks for mudrooms, back halls and garage entries, sized to the people and the gear that come through that door. Every piece is built in our own shop to the measurements we take in your home, and our crews install it.
Design decisions
Lockers, benches and cabinets
Start by counting people and what each one carries: coats, backpacks, sports bags, leashes, umbrellas. A locker per person, with a hook, a cubby and a shelf, makes it obvious where things go. A bench gives you a place to sit and pull boots on, with shoe storage, drawers or a lift-up seat underneath. Tall closed cabinets take the vacuum, cleaning supplies and out-of-season gear.
Open or closed storage
Open lockers are quicker to use, and wet jackets dry in the air. Doors hide the clutter, which matters when the mudroom is visible from the kitchen or the front entry. Many layouts mix the two: open sections at reach height, doors on the upper cabinets.
Materials and finishes
A mudroom takes more wear than most storage in the house. Melamine and laminate panels resist scuffs and wipe clean, which makes them the practical choice for lockers and lower cabinets. Painted or wood finishes are options to discuss when the mudroom doubles as a front entry.
For the bench seat or a drop-zone counter, a top cut in our own fabrication shop stands up to wet gear better than a painted surface. Quartz and porcelain handle water and scuffs well, and granite is a hard natural option.
Measuring and installation
We measure the space ourselves, including the swing of the entry door, light switches, outlets and any heating vents near the floor, since a bench cannot block them. The shop builds to those numbers. Our crews anchor the lockers and benches to the wall, level them on floors that are rarely perfectly flat, and fit hooks and hardware. Any bench or counter top is templated after the cabinets are set, then cut in our fabrication shop and installed.
Mudrooms next to the laundry
Mudrooms often share a room or a wall with the laundry. Plan the two together and the lockers, a folding counter and laundry room cabinets can share one finish and one layout. If the mudroom is part of a basement walkout or a larger project, see how we approach basement finishing. For coat storage inside the house, a reach-in or walk-in closet follows the same process.
Start your mudroom
Book a showroom visit to see cabinet finishes and countertop samples, or request a mudroom estimate and we will start by measuring the space.
How the project runs
One team from the first visit to the install — the same people measure, design, build and install it.
Step 1: Visit or measure
Visit a showroom or request an estimate. We measure the entry in your home and ask who comes through it and what they carry.
Step 2: Design
We lay out lockers, bench and cabinets in the finish you choose, and price the mudroom in one written proposal.
Step 3: Build in our shop
Lockers, benches and cabinets are cut and assembled in our own shop to the measurements of your space.
Step 4: Install
Our crews anchor and level everything and fit the hooks and hardware. Any bench or counter top is templated on site and cut in our fabrication shop.
Questions about mudroom lockers & cabinets
Something we did not cover? Call (540) 305-0431 or send us the details.
How much space does a mudroom need?
Less than you might expect. A single wall with a bench, hooks and a tall cabinet can work in a wide hallway or at the end of a laundry room. What matters is a clear path past the bench while someone sits on it, and room for doors and drawers to open without blocking the entry door. We measure and show you what fits.
What finish holds up best in a mudroom?
Pick a surface that wipes clean and tolerates moisture, because wet boots, umbrellas and jackets end up here. Melamine and laminate panels resist scuffs and clean easily. Painted finishes look more like furniture but show chips on the bench and lower edges sooner. A bench top cut from quartz or porcelain, or a removable boot tray, protects the hardest-working surface.
Can you add a mudroom if my house does not have one?
Often. A wide hall by the garage door, the end of a laundry room or an existing coat closet can usually take a bench and lockers. If you want to move a wall or combine the laundry and mudroom into one room, it becomes a remodeling project, and the room and the cabinets are planned together.
Can a mudroom include a pet station?
Yes. A low cabinet with a pull-out for food and bowls, a drawer for leashes and treats, and a hook by the door are simple additions. An open space under the bench can hold a dog bed or crate. A washing station or dog shower needs a water supply and drain, so it is planned as plumbing work with the room.
